The GM small block LS engine is one of the most popular engine platforms in auto racing, known for its simple, lightweight design and high-power output. However, it has some limitations, notably in the design of its internal oil pump. The LS engine utilizes a gerotor-style pump driven by the crankshaft, a setup found in both the wet sump and OEM "dry sump" configurations.
This also stiffens the block and makes the engine sturdier in extreme conditions due to the design of the pan.
Installation should be done by a professional only, this is just the oil pan.

The dry sump setup has many advantages, this includes:

- Less likelihood of engine oil starvation under high g-force cornering
- Increased horsepower due to reduced friction within the oil pan
